The production process of napkins

The production process of napkins generally includes multiple processes such as raw material selection, weaving, printing and dyeing, cutting, folding and packaging.
The production process of napkins generally includes multiple processes such as raw material selection, weaving, printing and dyeing, cutting, folding and packaging. The following is a detailed introduction:

  1. Raw Material Selection
    • Fiber Selection: The raw materials for napkins are usually cotton, linen, bamboo fiber, or chemical fiber, etc. Cotton fibers are soft and highly absorbent, linen fibers are stiff and breathable, bamboo fibers are naturally antibacterial and moisture-absorbing, and chemical fibers have the characteristics of high strength and easy maintenance. Manufacturers will select appropriate fiber raw materials according to the usage scenarios of napkins and customer needs.
    • Yarn Specification: After determining the type of fiber, it is necessary to select the appropriate yarn specification, such as the count and twist of the yarn. The higher the count, the finer the yarn, and the softer and smoother the texture of the napkin woven from it, but the cost is also relatively higher.
  2. Weaving
    • Loom Selection: Common looms include rapier looms and air-jet looms, etc. Rapier looms are suitable for small-batch and multi-variety production and can weave various complex fabric structures; air-jet looms have high production efficiency and are suitable for large-scale production.
    • Weaving Process: Interweave the selected yarns on the loom according to the designed fabric structure to form the grey fabric of the napkin. During the weaving process, parameters such as the density and width of the fabric need to be controlled to ensure the quality and performance of the napkin.
  3. Printing and Dyeing
    • Pretreatment: The grey fabric needs to go through pretreatment processes such as desizing, scouring, and bleaching before printing and dyeing to remove impurities, sizing agents, and pigments on the fabric, improve the whiteness and water absorption of the fabric, and prepare for subsequent dyeing and printing.
    • Dyeing: Select appropriate dyes for dyeing according to the color required by customers. Dyeing methods include exhaustion dyeing and pad dyeing, etc. In exhaustion dyeing, the fabric is immersed in the dye liquor so that the dye uniformly penetrates into the interior of the fibers; in pad dyeing, the dye liquor is uniformly padded onto the fabric through rollers, and then fixed by steaming or baking to make the dye combine with the fibers.
    • Printing: If the napkin needs to have patterns or designs, the printing process can be adopted. Common printing methods include screen printing and digital printing, etc. In screen printing, the dye is printed onto the fabric through a screen plate, which is suitable for mass production; digital printing uses a computer to control the nozzles to directly spray the dye onto the fabric, which can achieve high-precision and personalized pattern printing.
    • Post-treatment: After dyeing and printing, the fabric needs to go through post-treatment processes such as washing, soaping, and softening to remove the floating color and impurities on the surface of the fabric and improve the hand feel and color fastness of the fabric.
  4. Cutting
    • Specification Determination: According to market demand and customer orders, determine the size specifications of the napkins, such as the common sizes of square napkins are 40cm×40cm, 50cm×50cm, etc., and the sizes of rectangular napkins are 30cm×50cm, 40cm×60cm, etc.
    • Cutting Equipment: Use cutting tables, electric scissors, or laser cutting machines and other equipment to cut the printed and dyed fabric. Cutting tables and electric scissors are suitable for large-scale cutting and have high efficiency; laser cutting machines have high precision and can cut out various shapes and complex patterns, but the cost is relatively high.
  5. Folding and Packaging
    • Folding: The cut napkins need to be folded in a certain way for easy packaging and transportation. Common folding methods include square folding, rectangular folding, triangular folding, etc. Folding can be done manually or by a folding machine.
    • Packaging: Put the folded napkins into packaging materials such as plastic bags, cartons, or paper bags, and mark the product's brand, specification, material, washing instructions, and other information on the packaging. For high-end napkins, gift box packaging can also be used to enhance the grade and added value of the product.
  6. Quality Inspection
    • Appearance Inspection: Check whether there are defects on the surface of the napkin, such as color spots, weaving defects, holes, etc.; whether the patterns and colors are clear and uniform, and whether there is color difference; whether the edges are neat and whether the folding is standardized.
    • Size Inspection: Measure the length, width, and other dimensions of the napkin to check whether they meet the specified specifications, and the size deviation should be within the allowable range.
    • Physical Property Inspection: Test the physical performance indicators of the napkin, such as water absorption, strength, and shrinkage rate. The water absorption should be good, and it should be able to absorb water quickly; the strength should be sufficient, and it should not be easily torn; the shrinkage rate should be controlled within a certain range to ensure the dimensional stability of the napkin after washing.

After the above production processes, the napkins can enter the market for sale, providing hygienic and convenient services for people in dining and other occasions.
